Summer Institute, June 15 – 19, 2009

The Alabama Institute for Education in the Arts provides intense professional development in an art form of your choice (visual arts, theatre, music, or dance) during its Summer Institute, June 15 – 19, 2009, in Montgomery, Alabama, from 8:30 – 4:30 daily. Teachers will earn approximately 45 contact hours. The Visual Arts sessions take place in the studio spaces of the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts. The other classes are held at Saint James School on Vaughn Road. Teachers are master teachers and Teaching Artists. Teachers receive numerous free resources (art posters, CDs, musical instruments, books, DVDs) to take back to their classrooms to support implementation of the lessons they develop during the course of the week. Tuition is $300. Although AIEA encourages that schools send a team (two teachers plus an administrator, who attends a special 2-day strand free), single teachers are also welcome to attend. Additional information is available at www.artseducation.org. Some school systems have Title I money available for professional development.

Participants are a mix of classroom teachers with no art experience as well as art specialists. Charlie Lucas will be one of the guest presenters this summer in the Visual Arts Institute! The Museum is planning a special event for all participants on Thursday evening, June 18, including supper in the Education wing!

For complete details and registration forms visit AIEA Summer Institute.
