Hello Alabama Art Educators,
We have signed up for an Artisan table at the NYC National Conference.
What does that mean? Thursday evening at the Conference they will have a Gallery area of handcrafted items for sale created by art educators.
ALABAMA has a table. We are hoping to raise money for AAEA.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Give us an item or two to sell. You get 50% of the Sale and 50% goes to AAEA.
If you are interested you can give or send your Item to SHARON CHRISTMAN or LAUREN FOWLER.
Items need to be labeled with a price and if you want your calling card included attach both to the item.
We also need information to keep up with items. Give us an inventory list of your items with price and your name and contact information.
Sales will be cash only so keep this in mind. Items should be in the $10-$40 range.
Keep in mind that items will be transported in a suitcase by one of us so they need to be small, nonbreakable, and easy to transport on an airplane. They will have to fit among our travel items..lol.
After the Conf. Sharon Christman will mail you your check.
If you are attending the Conference you can bring your item(s) to the Gallery on Thursday between 6:00-7:00 pm. Sale starts at 7:00 and ends at 9:00.
This will be the first time we have tried something like this. Hopefully it will be a success and we can continue in future years.
If you have questions.
You can e-mail Sharon.

SCAD Launches its Second Annual SCAD Challenge Scholarship Competition. The competition offers high school/secondary school students an opportunity to showcase their talent as the next generation of talented artists and designers. High school seniors, juniors, and students completing their last two years of secondary school compete and may become eligible for scholarships to attend SCAD, the most comprehensive art and design university in the world. The majority of competitions are open to high school seniors, and we are hosting a separate challenge for high school juniors. Senior winners can earn a $3,000 annual SCAD scholarship for first place; $2,000 annual SCAD scholarship for second place; and $1,000 SCAD scholarship for third place. Work by all finalists and winners is posted in an online gallery on the SCAD Challenge website. The 10 competitions reflect some of the unique programs of study that SCAD offers students, from photography and animation to fashion and writing. Students can submit work to each and every challenge. Students can submit work in the following categories: 2-D, Photography or Wild Card. The Wild Card category allows students to submit any work that does not fall into the 2-D or Photography categories. Winning students are eligible to receive a $1,100, $750 or $350 scholarship to attend the SCAD Rising Star summer programs. These programs include a week-long workshop program called SCAD Summer Seminars or a five-week residential program called SCAD Pre-College. You can learn more about SCAD summer programs at www.scad.edu/summer. Deadlines vary depending on medium: Sept. 2, 2011-Feb 3, 2012.

Sun, June 26, 2011 3:38:32 PMDC Dream Days change of timesFrom:Kelly Berwager <artdoc664@yahoo.com> To:Abi Davis <abidavis01@gmail.com>; Alicia Hames <ahames@auburnschools.org>; Amy Leigh Bamberg <amyleigh@churchofthehighlands.com>; Ann-Ashton Busby <annashtonb@gmail.com>; Anna Rodgers <arodgers25756@yahoo.com>; Anne Bell-Alford <abellalford@gmail.com>
Hello everyone!Hope all is well & you are enjoying your summer. We had a great day yesterday in Phil Campbell! Lots of sweet families & kiddos! Plus, we met some other groups who are doing different things for families affected by the storms....books, toys, boxes of goodies, etc. It was awesome to see all of the different groups coming together to help.
One group, Alabama's Lost Toys, mentioned a possible event in Homewood scheduled for late in July. I'll keep you posted once I find out more....
As for the Dream Center Dream Days scheduled for July 11 & 13, I've been in touch with the coordinator trying to plan for how many & what we were going to do. She informed me today that they have had to change the times to ALL ages from 1-3PM. So no need for double shifts those days, but that also means about 50 kids per day for two hours! Yikes!
I had hoped to do Jellyfish Mobiles (we will do this tomorrow at Willow Wood), pinwheels & maybe puppets for the little ones and Duct Tape projects with the older ones. BTW, if you can donate a roll or two of Duct Tape, that would be great! The DC is going to try & help us with that, but I know from past projects, the more colors they have to pick from the more creative they can be!
SO, if we can still divide the groups by ages we should still be able to go with my original plans for the different projects. If not, well, I've got to think about that......Be letting me know if you can help on either of those days. I will not be here on the 11, but have some great ladies who are going to lead it for me & I know will do a great job!
June/July/August ScheduleMonday, June 27 - Willow Wood Rec Center - 10-11:30
Week of July 4 - No eventsMonday, July 11 - Dream Center - 1-3 - Boys' Dream DayWednesday, July 13 - Dream Center - 1-3 - Girls' Dream DaySaturday, July 16 - COTH SERVE Day (this is for COTH small group folks)Monday, July 18 - Willow Wood Rec Center - 10-11:30Saturday, July 23 - Homewood Event ????????Monday, July 25 - Willow Wood Rec Center - 10-11:30

We are working to arrange a conference that you will be proud of and enjoy. We will be repeating some of our off- site excursions and adding a couple. (ie: Helen Keller Home, local Indian mound) Suggestions from 2009 are being acted upon. Registration and Hotel info will follow on the website, e-mail and USPS. This notice is a last call for any of you that would like to: 1. present : a lesson, research, wonderful web activity, a community activity that you have successfully completed, etc. 2. lead a: discussion, an interactive web activity, open floor for art teacher concerns, etc.We felt that our mailing list at the time of our mailing of presenter submission forms was not current and thought it a good idea to put out an e-mail to ensure that all of you had the opportunity to participate. Remember, presenting at a conference counts toward your re-certification hours. The National Middle school chair has been encouraging us to participate at the national level also - it must be a good idea. If you are interested in presenting and have not contacted me please take this opportunity to do so. THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all of you that already have responded. Jerry, Kathy and I are looking forward to seeing all of you in Florence in November. November 4 & 5, 2011.

Wow! Just as I was about to email you all, we got asked to participate in yet another event! Out in Pratt City on July 14. That is a Thursday & I know we will be at the Dream Center two days already that week, but if you are someone who maybe can't help on the other days, you would be willing to do with us on the 14th. Just putting it out there for now.....didn't commit yet....let me know what you think!
Okay, back to my original message (same one as on FB page, btw).....1) Art Prep Meeting @ my place (908 Riverhaven Place) tomorrow (Thurs., June 23) around 6PM. No need to bring food....I'll ORDER PIZZA! Bring a bag of candy if you can (remember, NO chocolate!). We have a lot to prep, so be prepared to work.
2) Phil Campbell Event this Sat., June 25 @ Northwest Shoals Community College; 2080 College Road Phil Cambell, AL 35581. -If you want to drive on, feel free. If you want to carpool &/or caravan meet me @ my school around 8:15am on Saturday. Hall-Kent Elementary; 213 Hall Ave.; Homewood 35209. I'll be in the back parking lot waiting for whoever wants to meet. We need to be on the road by 8:30. It's about a 2 hour drive! Text me your phone number (if I don't already have it), so we can keep up with each other. -It will be a LONG day, so bring water & maybe a snack. They are planning on feeding 700 & I'm assuming that means we can purchase stuff, but I'm going to take some snacks just in case. You may also want to bring a folding chair. We will have a fairly small area to work (two tables under one canopy), so we can share chairs if needed.
3) We'll be back at the Willow Wood Rec Center on Monday. Start time is 10 a.m.
